Niklas Sonkin appointed new Chair of the Board of Qvik Group – towards European growth

Qvik Group, a specialist in digital consumer services, has appointed Niklas Sonkin as Chair of its Board of Directors. Sonkin brings over 30 years of experience in international leadership roles in digitalisation.

Niklas Sonkin has witnessed the first steps of Finnish digitalisation up close. He was involved in building the internet in Finland as far back as the late 1980s. Now he steps in as Chair of the Board of Qvik Group at a time when the demands placed on digital services are higher than ever.

Sonkin brings to the role over 30 years of experience in international leadership positions in digitalisation. He has served as CEO of Accountor, led a telecoms company’s business serving 25 million consumer customers, and built deep insight into the dynamics of both consumer and enterprise markets. It is precisely this dual perspective that leads him to believe Qvik is in the right place at the right time.

“Consumers are brutally demanding – usability and quality are what matter. We’re not just competing in local markets; we’re up against global services every single day. Solutions need to be top-notch, and that is exactly our strength.”

Sonkin sees Qvik’s competitive edge in the spaces where transactions are most frequent: financial services, retail, and healthcare. The common denominator is the need to build services that people want to return to, again and again. Leveraging data and analytics to drive business development is central to this, and AI is opening up new possibilities.

“The AI landscape is constantly changing, and there’s no point chasing every new thing. But we need to be hungry to understand what it offers and build solutions on that foundation that truly stand the test of time.”

Qvik Group CEO Lari Tuominen sees the appointment as a significant step in the company’s growth story: “It’s great to bring in experience from building European growth. Niklas will bring sharper structure to our operations, strengthen our customer focus, and raise our standards even further.”

Tuukka Vauramo, a founding member of Qvik who served as Chair of the Board for over 17 years and continues on the board, welcomes his successor:

“We built Qvik from the ground up, and it’s hard not to feel proud of how far we’ve come together over the years. Niklas brings valuable experience and expertise to the board, and I’m sure we’ll all learn something new from him.”

Sonkin’s strategic priority is to grow Qvik in a European direction. As one of his first acts, the new Chair will visit Stockholm to meet Qvik’s staff and clients. He notes that Swedes have traditionally been strong on the consumer perspective, and there is much to learn from them in Finland as well.

Sonkin hopes Nordic companies will remain open to international influences: “We have always been eager to adopt new technologies. That is a competitive advantage that will only grow stronger, and Qvik has exactly the right expertise to make the most of it.”
